Default More weapon types.

I remember an old thread on the IGN boards shortly after the WPE, about weapon types. People were very concerned by the very low amount of base weapons in the game. Favorites like Two-Handed swords, and Spears was not anywere to be seen. Gailie assured people that there would be many more before release. After all the WPE was just a little preview of what was to come.

The months pass by, and nothing happens. Around before release it is said that they will most likely implant more shortly after release. Months pass by nothing happens. All the time during chatlogs it is said that it's a possibility and they are thinking about it and that we should expect to see more in expansions.

While to be fair, Factions did introduce Daggers, however that was the only one.

I would give my horses eye for Two-Handed swords, like my character has in Diablo, Oblivion, WoW and all does other great RPG games.

Why don't they just add Two-Handed Swords, Two-Handed Axes and One-Handed hammers, and combine them under the current skillset? Why would two-handed sword which has increased damage but no room for shield, not work with sword skills? It's just a matter of making some new animations and sound effects?

Anet could you please do this? I have wanted two-handed swords since the dawn of times... It's the ultimate weapons. Katanas in samurai movies, Jedis in starwars, Aragorn in lord of the rings... many cool video games has it like devil may cry and ninja gaiden. It just pwns and I would so love to see it.

Yes, because melee weapon-masters don't do enough damage already...

On a serious note, the game has been designed in a strict sort of way and its not so simple to add new Attributes - i presume Double Sword-Mastery would be a new attribute? If not, the rest of the classes would have to be remastered to defend themselves against the new glorification of warriors. It would be a colossal task and I doubt it would ever happen, except in a new Chapter altogether.

Note: Don't say "Pwns".

why would it require a new attribute?

why not just make two-handed swords? let it be like normal swords but with more damage!? let it work with all the current sword skills... the only difference would be the lack of shield. `seems simple to me.

Omg....this reminds me of when I was 7 and I was playing zelda: ocarina of time and I had the master sword and hyrulian shield and I busted my ass to do all the errands for the biggoron sword

anyways, I guess this would be an ok idea.

I agree and disagree with you. First, that giants knife was annoying to get, and I was about 7 years old playing that game as well. I always got the time trial stuff on the first try(even in the first game file i made) but it just took so long because of how many errands there were. I don't agree with more weps though, as nice as it would be, I think it'd be nice to just get new flavors of the current weapons with each new chapter(like Factions brought in all sorts of new staves, axes, etc, they were essentially the same as prophecies weapons, except for the skin)

IMO, new weps should be for new professions, and D2 sucks now.

I don't know about two handed swords.. that would be a tough one to implement.

I know its been said lots before.. but I really think rangers should have a second weapon type, even some sort of trapper staff would sufice

I have a true flamberge, or two handed sword. These were not designed for slashing damage. They were designed to do blunt damage, sometimes a little piercing, but mostly blunt. They were not even sharpened, but used to knock knights from horseback. Adding in two handed weapons used like the hammers would not be so difficult.

I would like to see real staff weapon moves, with those holding them using them to do blunt damage in melee, but still in the 11-22 range.

The one weapon I would like to see for rangers is the sling:
Requirement: Marksmanship
Typed: One-handed.
Attack Speed: 1.75 sec.s (hand sling), 2 sec.s (staff sling - on end of wand/rod)
Range: 112 (hand sling), 142 (staff sling - on end of wand/rod)
Accuracy: Good
Armor Penetration: +10%
Damage: 11-22

Repeating cross bows come to mind, and the 2 handed swords would rock

crossbows for rangers would be nice. throwing weapons for assassins. Real staff fighting like gandalf from LOTR for elementalists.

but warriors... the thing is that in Ocarina of Time, Link looked really cool when he fought. he carried his sword and shield on his back when he was not using them. and that game was from 1998! GW was released in 2005:S

I just think its dissapointing that all melee combat looks very generic and lame.

I saw the Kingdom of Heaven: Directors Cut yesterday were they added 50 minutes worth of more footage(made an mediocre film into an awesome one!) and the weapon style and fighting Orlando Bloom uses in that movie is really cool. I wish fighting with swords was as cool in GW.

the easy thing to do would be adding hammer skins that look like big swords...

This is still guildwars.. NC soft if you havent read is working on a 3:rd AND 4:th chapter... which in there are new professions.. = new weapons..

And why even come up with this idea? Its sad to see that some people are just not happy with gw as it is.. If I was the one to deside, I would dump a suggestion like this in an instant..

I mean come on, whats next guys. Staff with ap 20/20 and why not add some enchants and health and say, energy +13333333333...

You guys should think about it before posting.. Ask yourselfs what guild wars is, be happy with it, let it change within time.. or you simply bought the wrong game..

EDIT*** QUOTE: I would give my horses eye for Two-Handed swords, like my character has in Diablo, Oblivion, WoW and all does other great RPG games.

... Guild Wars IS a great game, WoW is another game.. imo it.. well.. I dont like it.
Go play wow, like I said, you might have the wrong game..

I mean.. thats a really dumb comment that got me thinking, if he thinks WoW and those other games are so good, why is he playing guild wars for then? Guild wars is not even a mmorpg, for all those who didnt know, and its not like any other RPG, so why make it "one of them"...

EDIT 2: Me and my friend here have a nice suggestion for the next profession that will be able to use those "Double" handed big swords. So just wait

Which part is misinformation?

1) You are sayiing I did not purchase one?
2) You are saying they were not designed for thrusting damage past the pike poles whose heads they were used to knocl off? Thrusting, or piercing damage, as opposed to slashing damage.
3) You are saying they were not used like a chopping maul to break the heads off of pikes?
4) You are saying that piercing weapons have long sharpened blades?
5) You are saying that stout men were not chosen to use them in the front line of combat in order to foul up advancing pike lines?
6) You are saying these same stout men were not used to forceably dismount knights from horseback?

So, this comapany is fraudulantly advertising:

Perhaps this company also is fraudulant:

In point of fact, the Flamberge is correctly only applied in title to the swords of Charlemagne and Renaud de Montauban, and 7 others forged by Galas. What is usually called a Flamberge is is more often than not a flame style blade or Flammard, which lacks the ricasso (a hand hold above the hilt and before the blade).

I think a crossbow would be better on a new class, it is a rather modern weapon for that time period and could be used differently.

I hope we get access to dozens of new kinds of weapons in the future, Whips, Javalins, 2 handed swords and even axes, perhaps single handed clubs and fhails.

Whips could be used as a new skin for a caster class weapon, as well as some weapons like orbs and escence which simply eminates from your hands. Some slower attack rate, higher damage caster weapons would help.

A Samurai with a 2 handed Katana would be wonderful.

Chain weapons, Spears, and or halbreds. Maybe even scythes, although I don't personally appreciate them as a weapon. A scythe would be a great melee weapon for a necromancer though, it would be nice if interesting melee weapons were made for caster classes, it helps them enter melee combat for point blank skills, wile providing the stats and bonuses of weapons from their own class.

I would even appreciate some more mythical weapons. like Giant Glaives or Boomerangs.

If they make 2 handed swords for Warrior, new skills should probably be added only for 2 handed weapons, because the damage ratio and skill types associated with sword attacks are balanced for a one handed swords speed and damage. But they can share the same attribute, the skills could both be under sword mastery, but you would have to have the right type of sword to use a normal sword skill or a 2 handed sword skill. If they don't add simple weapons like 2 handed swords and axes to Warrior, perhaps a new class should be added which can use these. But I don't think these weapon types are original enough to make their own class, so I hope Anet adds 2 handed swords and axes to Warrior.

Oh, a swallow, or double ended sword weapon would be rather interesting.

Trident?

There are dozens of great weapon options for new classes, I hope Anet choses good ones and doesn't bring us something stupid. (hint, hint, Guns).

Could be wrong, but I think NatalieD was talking about the flamberge's representation in GW, not yours. I don't think they were going to start an arguement with someone who owns one.

Or they're trolling. Your choice. But, my knowledge about it agrees with your company's knowledge.

Mm, no. I don't know anything about GW's representation of flamberges; I don't really play PVE.

It's worth noting that I was responding to Fitz's initial post about flamberges, not the second one where he said very different things and acted like it was what he was saying all along.

I also got the idea from his first post that he was saying all two-handed swords are that way, but in retrospect that was probably just misinterpretation on my part.

id love to be able to weild a broadsword mmmmmmm...................

However......
i think it should be for a diff proffession for one of the new chapters, adding it to the already decent warrior just seems like a waste when you can build a whole new proffession around weilding a 2 handed sword. o the possibilities.
